I am a fiction writer and scholar. I earned a PhD from Florida Atlantic University's Comparative Studies program where I studied Literary Cognition. I am also a writing instructor and Associate Director of the Naples Writers' Workshop and cohost of the Why Is This Good? podcast.
I use this website to share a bit of my personal writing.
I write both short stories and novels. Here is a brief sketch of my novel-writing apprenticeship (January 2013). Read my essay "My History with Fantasy Fiction" (February 2009) for the story of how I came to be writing in the Fantasy Genre. One of my lifelong projects is the development of the legendarium of Raya.
I also write academic essays and articles. My primary scholarly work, which I began as a PhD student, is in Literary Cognition, exploring the mental faculties that provide the experience of reading. Some of the essays included on this website represent steps along my academic journey toward what became literary cognition.
Once upon a time I wrote code as a hobby, starting in about 1990. Nowadays I stretch that muscle once in a while coding websites such as this one, but unfortunately there isn’t enough time to write code with the focus and devotion I once had. I've included a short essay about the Universe Game (August 2008), which was a long-time project.
I've written about the logo included on these pages.
I live in Naples, Florida with my wife and twin daughters.
